It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s…the World’s Fastest Solar Power Car?

fastest solar car

It may not be the sleekest design, or offer the amount of leg room that most consumers require, but the “IVy,” a solar cell car built by the Sunswift team at the University of New South Wales, has something else to boast about—its ability to reach an impressive 55 miles per hour using the same amount of energy as a toaster. Yes, that’s right. A toaster.

This is the fourth solar cell car built by the Sunswift team, and it has officially been named the fastest solar car released to date. The IVy requires only 1,200 watts of energy, and looks more like one giant solar panel than a vehicle capable of getting from point A to B.

It may not be conducive for highway travel quite yet, but the IVy opens up a plethora of possibilities for travel in the future.
