eSolar appoints SVP engineering in Craig Tyner

eSolar has appointed Craig Tyner, Ph.D., as senior vice president of engineering.


Tyner joins eSolar’s executive team following the company’s deal with Southern California Edison. The company is to build a total of 245 MW of concentrating solar plants in the Antelope Valley region of Southern California. The series of fully operational plants will begin production in 2011.

Schott Solar signs first deal with DC Power Systems

Schott Solar has entered into a multi-year supply contract with DC Power Systems to supply the company with over 13 MW of photovoltaic modules.


The contract is the first one between the two companies.


Schott plans to manufacture the modules in its two US sites: one in Billerica, Mass., and one under construction in Albuquerque, N.M.

Masdar extends deadline for Shams 1 plant

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has decided to extend the deadline for bids for its solar power plant till the end of September, reported Middle East Business Intelligence.


Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s $15 billion future energy initiative, is developing CSP plants in Abu Dhabi, and their flagship plant “Shams 1″ is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Solel and Glaston open new solar reflector manufacturing facility

Solel Solar Systems has opened a $9 million solar reflector manufacturing facility in Finland. The facility is located in Akaa, about 200 kilometers north of Helsinki.


It has the capacity to produce 240,000 parabolic solar reflectors a year, enough to power a 50 MW power plant.
