BENGALURU: When entering KIA’s sprawling 2,55,661 square meter second terminal, it’s a different feeling to stand under the exquisite lights and 6,100,000 plants including 3,600 species ranging in age from 6 days and 800 years. You feel like you are surrounded by a lush garden.

Among the flowers are 100 varieties of lilies and 96 species of lotus. Plants can be spotted on the massive bell-shaped structures above and as hanging, vertical gardens all around, living up to its reputation as the ‘terminal within a garden’.

At the entrance to the terminal, a huge sculpture of Garuda, Lord Vishnu’s vehicle, surrounded by 14 figurines takes center stage. About 923 km of artificial bamboo, which is durable and fire resistant, has been used to cool the environment, and it will also save 24.9% energy through solar panels and sky lighting. The rich heritage and culture of Karnataka is exhibited through 60 works of art presented by 43 artists.

TERMINAL OPERATIONAL IN TWO MONTHS: BIAL MD
BIAL CEO and Managing Director, Hari Marar, affirmed that the second terminal will become operational in 1.5 to 2 months as some works are pending. However, some works appear to have been rushed following the inauguration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During his presentation, he said that utilities, electricity and water also needed to be prepared. “We have now increased the number of lanes that connect the airport to the city to 5+5 lanes. The capacity we have inside the airport can now handle the rush for the next decade,” he said.
