Conversations – A solo exhibition at the Southern Vermont Art Center

On view at the Southern Vermont Art Center from September 17 to November 6 is Conversations – a solo exhibition featuring the art of Barbara Ackerman, an artist and graphic designer living in Bennington, Vermont. Meet the artist at a vernissage on Saturday September 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This opening is free and open to the public.

Barbara has spent the past few years exploring engraving with a focus on green technology. Exploration of the photo-emulsion printing process led to an invitation in 2019 to participate in Solar Impressions International, an exhibition at the Southampton Art Center on Long Island. She obtained special recognition from the jurist Eric Fischl, an internationally renowned American painter and sculptor. She continues to explore engraving and marking techniques. Her recent work exhibited at the Southern Vermont Art Center includes collagraphic explorations in color, layering and texture.

Regarding his art and process, Ackerman states, “I begin my art with images of the temporal and natural world and use familiar forms – patterns and colors creating the memory of an experience. Shapes and patterns intended to represent pieces of a world full of mystery – connecting the visible and invisible worlds, reflecting the layers of experiences that color our lives.

Barbara earned a BS in Art Education from the University of Vermont where she studied painting with Frank Hewitt and completed the MFA program at Northern Vermont University/Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, Vermont. More recently, she has completed artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and the Artists Association of Nantucket, MA. Over the past two decades she has explored various techniques in Truro
Center for the Arts in Castle Hill and American Graphics Institute in Boston MA, among others. She is a founding member of the Burlington Artists Guild. Learn more about the artist and his work by visiting
